The NCGOP has apparently become scared of independents. According to the News & Observer, the NCGOP is considering basically restricting NCGOP primaries to only official card carrying members of the party in an effort to restrict the presence of “more moderate” candidates. You apparently have to bleed Republican blood to even consider voting in the cool kid primaries. I’m not kidding:
“Primary turnout is generally low. Registered unaffiliated voters are affecting the outcome of the Republican nominee for the November general election resulting in a more moderate candidate being elected in some areas of the state,” according to the resolution.
Apparently the NCGOP continues to live in a fantasy world where everyone but themselves doesn’t matter. This is precisely the sort of decision making (and the exact sort of thinking) that further alienates the GOP from North Carolina residents. I’m not entirely sure what “political consultant” came up with this idea (my guess: hardcore right wing politicians in NC trying to ensure safety in the upcoming primaries), but anyone who thinks that the best way to find a good candidate to win a primary is to put all the “cool” Republican kids in a clubhouse and lock the door is an idiot.
